Miami-Dade Sports Commission Background The Miami-Dade Sports Commission, Inc. (MDSC), was created by Miami-Dade County ordinance in June 2003, and has been established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created to attract, promote and manage major sporting events in the Greater Miami area. The MDSC currently employs a staff of four full-time sports event professionals with more than 50 years of combined experience. The MDSC Board of Directors is made up of 41 sports industry professionals, tourism industry professionals, the corporate community, government officials and other community leaders. As the official sports development and promotion agency for Miami-Dade County, the Miami-Dade Sports Commission (MDSC) is charged with securing or creating sports business that will provide significant value to the community. Each of the major professional sports leagues have a presence in South Florida, and Miami plays host to numerous championships in auto racing, tennis, golf, college football and many more. However, what may be the most popular sport in this market, soccer, has been relatively under served in terms of competition at the highest level. Thus, the MDSC has developed the Miami Soccer Series (MSS) as a platform for a series of international matches or tournaments, featuring soccer competition at the highest level. The Miami Soccer Series (MSS) is a collection of friendly matches, invitational tournaments and other major soccer events held in Miami and promoted under the Miami Soccer Series brand.
